MEET
A VERY WARM
WELCOME
I'm Brooke - the face behind the camera here at NBP! I am a dog mom, shower singer, lover of Jesus and chocolate, doula, and photographer. I live in yoga pants and laugh at just about everything.
I would love to say I always knew I would be right where I am today - but honestly, being a photographer had never crossed my mind. I mean, I grew up around cameras and loved taking pictures but the idea that I could make it more than just a hobby never seemed real to me.
I always wanted to be a veterinarian growing up - my love for animals is something serious (especially moo moos). I finished school went to college and took chemistry - BOOM no longer wanted to be a vet - or anything that made me take chemistry again for that matter.
I had always had my picture taken as a child because my mom was obsessed with me... (just kidding, kinda). But looking back I am forever grateful for every single image she took. I can watch myself grow up, see the people I shared my life with, and the loved ones that have passed along the way and I can truly see the importance of documenting the everyday moments.
Once I decided I was going to dive into this photography thing, the newborn and baby part came naturally. I have always loved babies and children and with an extensive background in nannying and childcare, I decided I would start looking into doing more family photography and focus mostly on babies and motherhood. I took workshops and safety classes, did mentoring, and did lots of research on everything from lighting and camera settings to newborn reflexes and body temperatures and how they relate to safe posing and room conditions for baby
Just recently I also started training as a birth and postpartum doula so learning more about labor, pregnancy, birth, and fresh babies, in general, has been an enormous benefit to both my doula work and my photography.
Photography keeps memories alive when that's all you have left. People pass away, babies grow up, and children become more independent. You change, you move, you live your life day by day, and before long, years have passed and you wish time would slow down.
In 10 years will you remember how tiny your new baby was in dad's hands, or how much your little bump grew? Will you remember how cute that tiny smile was during their newborn session or how much they had grown in just a year? When they are going to college, will you remember how perfect that tiny little face looked the day you welcomed them into the world? Will you remember how amazing those "bear hugs" felt after a long work day when they are 15 and just wanted you to leave them alone?
Don't let these moments pass you by!
